Mom and me

Yesterday, was a very good day, because I spent the day with my mom. She, along with a bus load of church members and other friends, traveled a couple of hours from home for a day in the “big city”. I was invited to tag along for fellowship over lunch and a matinée performance of a popular Broadway musical that’s making its way across the country. With a high temperature of 80 degrees, a gentle breeze and not a cloud in the sky, it was an absolutely marvelous day!

Another highlight of my day, yesterday, was my FaceTime conversation with my sister who lives on the opposite side of the country. I tell you…Technology, with all of its scariness, can truly be a blessing sometimes.

In the midst of such a beautiful day, I couldn’t help but think about my father. I told my mom that Saturdays tend to be a little challenging for me. I used to call my parents every Saturday morning. I called throughout the week, as well, but many years ago (probably during my college years) Saturday mornings became our time. And IF for some reason I FAILED to call on a Saturday morning (which I sometimes did)…OH my… Well let’s just say I was never surprised to receive a call from my dad inquiring as to whether I’d LOST MY MIND, lol (since, to him, some sort of mental malfunction was the only legitimate explanation for my not calling that morning). Yesterday morning, I found myself fighting against the same sensation I’ve had in weeks past, the desire to pick up the phone and call my daddy.

I guess these memories somehow made the time spent with my mom and the technology enhanced “facetime” with my sister just a bit more precious. Yep! Yesterday was all about cherishing the little things. Until next time…

Completely cherishing mom, missing dad, being ME,

Sunday’s are my regularly scheduled times to call home, so I know what you mean! I’ll be sure to cherish each one.

It’s amazing how easy it is to take such small things for granted. Please cherish the moments, Sonia! 🙂
